Often referred to as the “grandmother of Juneteenth,” Dr. Opal Lee is a 98-year-old activist who fought for decades to make Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday.⁣ ⁣ Last week, her granddaughter shared a little bit of @therealopallee's story with us — including how the burning of Opal's home by a racist mob on Juneteenth, 1939 would become a catalyst for her lifelong campaign for racial justice.⁣ ⁣ When one of our employees asked Opal how we can continue her legacy, she said it's about "working together for the greater good of unity. If we can't come together as one — no matter our color, gender, race — we are doomed as a people. If we get unity, anything is possible in the world." ❤️
